Workplace Based Assessment WBA
Disciplines
As per AMC requirements, assessments will need to be completed in all of the following clinical areas:
- Adult Medicine
- Adult Surgery
- Child Health
- Emergency Medicine
- Mental Health and
- Woman’s Health
Assessments
The following assessment tools are used across all disciplines:
- Mini-CEX: 12 with 2 across each clinical area
- Case Based Discussion: 6 across at least 3 clinical areas
- Multi-source feedback from clinical consultants and co-workers at mid-point and end of program
The WBA program must be undertaken in addition to normal duties and responsibilities. WBA is an assessment program, and candidates are responsible for their own learning.
Eligibility and Selection
To be eligible for the WBA Program, applicants must have been employed at MBPH for a minimum period of 12 months at the start of the program. Only existing employees can apply.
Other eligibility criteria include:
- Passed the AMC MCQ
- Practising at AHPRA Level 2 or above
- Been employed at MBPH for a minimum of 12 months at the start of the program
- 100% completion of MBPH mandatory training
- No current performance concerns
WBA selection is a competitive process with an expected wait time of 1 to 2 years. Amongst other criteria, the selection includes performance in OSCE’s and Case Based Discussions.
The selection process is conducted in accordance with AMC principles and MBPH governance requirements.
Employment at MBPH does not guarantee a WBA position.
Fees
The WBA Program is a fee-paying program. The current candidate fee at MBPH is set at $15,000 (+GST)*
In addition, candidates must pay an AMC fee of $1,070*, payable directly to the AMC.

Mildura International Medical Graduate Academy Program (MiCAP)
Are you an International Medical Graduate, living in Australia and looking for experience in the Australian healthcare system?
We are seeking motivated International Medical Graduates (IMGs) to join our IMG Clinical Academy Program as Honorary Medical Trainees.
The structured 12-week clinical training program is designed to support IMGs preparing for supervised clinical practice. Participants will gain valuable exposure to the Australian healthcare system while developing the clinical, communication and professional skills required to practise safely and effectively within Australian hospitals.
This is an honorary (unpaid) education and training position and is not an employment opportunity. Participants will train under the supervision of experienced clinicians in a supportive learning environment.
The IMG Clinical Academy provides:
- Structured clinical orientation to the Australian healthcare system
- Supervised clinical placements across hospital departments
- Bedside teaching and case-based learning
- Exposure to multidisciplinary team environments
- Clinical skills development (i.e. aseptic technique, cannulation, catheterisation)
- Professional communication and documentation training
- Regular feedback and coaching
- Opportunities to build confidence for future supervised practice
As an Honorary Medical Trainee, you will:
- Participate in supervised clinical activities appropriate to your level of training.
- Observe and assist with patient assessment and management under supervision.
- Attend ward rounds, outpatient clinics and educational sessions.
- Develop clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
- Practice safe clinical documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical practice and patient-centred care.
- Participate in feedback, assessment and reflective learning activities.
- Comply with all organisational policies relating to patient safety, confidentiality and infection prevention.
Disciplines
The successful applicants will participate in rotations in:
- General Medicine,
- General Surgery
- Emergency Medicine.
Our team is dedicated in supporting International Medical Graduates and their Medical Pathways.
Eligibility and Selection
To be successful you will have:
- A primary medical qualification recognised by the Australian Medical Council (AMC).
- Australian Working Rights
- Successfully completed AMC Part One (CAT MCQ).
- Be eligible for limited or provisional registration with AHPRA.
- Demonstrated commitment to pursuing medical practice in Australia.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
- Ability to practice collaboratively across multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Desirable:
- Have practiced medicine for a minimum of two years; either in Australia or overseas.
- Previous recent clinical experience within the last three years.
- Residing in the Mildura region.
Applicants will be required to provide a current National Police check, an Employee Working with Children's check and undertake immunisation screening prior to commencing the program.
Fees
Program fee: AUD10,000 (+GST) payable by the trainee.
Successful applicants will be required to be based in Mildura for the 12-week period.

Important Information
This is an honorary, unpaid training position provided for educational purposes. Participation does not constitute employment with the health service and does not guarantee future employment or entry into a Workplace-Based Assessment program.
