MILDURA Base Public Hospital has staged a celebration for its hospital medical oficers and interns to start the new year.
Seven interns spent 2023 at the hospital and were recognised for their efforts, alongside 32 hospital medical officers.
Dr Ghanisht Juwaheer was named intern of the year, for exhibiting exemplary leadership skills, and embodying the values of the hospital.
He wants to pursue a career in the cardiothoracic field, and will shortly transfer to a tertiary hospital.
Dr Matthew Kho and Dr Colin Marriott, who will both remain in Mildura for the year ahead, received intern awards and honourable mentions.
The hospital's medical officer of the year award was given to Dr Shiva Rottela.
Dr Ronela was recognised for his mentorship of new doctors and his positive attitude, and for ensuring new doctors were made to feel welcome.
MBPH deputy chief medical officer Nabrees Sinnalebbe said it was important to recognise the journeys of every staff member.
"The ceremony that we had is to recognise them and their tireless efforts to the service ability that we have at Mildura;' Mr Sinnalebbe said.
"We know that junior doctors are the backbone of the medical workforce, they are the present and they are going to be the future."
