MBPH launches innovative clinical academy for international medical graduates

29 Sep 2026

Mildura Base Public Hospital (MBPH) launched the Mildura Clinical Academy Program (MiCAP) on 28 September 2026, welcoming its first group of international medical graduates to Mildura as they begin their journey in the Australian healthcare system.

MiCAP is a structured training and education program for doctors who are new to Australia. It supports participants to develop their clinical, communication and professional skills while building their understanding of the Australian healthcare environment.

The doctors joining MiCAP bring diverse clinical experience and perspectives from around the world. They were selected through a highly competitive process and will now undertake a program tailored to the expectations of medical practice in Australia and the needs of a regional health service.

Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the Mildura community, connect with local healthcare professionals and consider future career opportunities in the region.

MiCAP is an important part of MBPH’s end-to-end medical workforce pathway. It supports doctors from their initial transition into the Australian healthcare system and creates a foundation for future employment, workplace-based assessment and Rural Generalist training opportunities.

This connected pathway is designed to support doctors at each stage of their development while building a skilled, stable and sustainable medical workforce for the Mildura community.

The launch also reflects MBPH’s commitment to finding innovative local solutions to regional workforce challenges. By investing in doctors early, providing structured support and creating clear development pathways, MBPH aims to attract talented clinicians, support their long-term success and encourage them to build their careers in regional Australia.

MiCAP strengthens Mildura’s growing role as a centre for regional medical education and training. It complements MBPH’s established workplace-based assessment program and its continued development of Rural Generalist training pathways.

MBPH warmly welcomes the first MiCAP participants to Mildura and congratulates them on taking this important next step in their medical careers.
