Mildura Base Public Hospital recognises the significant impact strokes have on our patients and their loved ones.
For national stroke week, MBPH partnered with John & Jeanette, who in 2025, experienced not one, but two strokes.
In 2025, John had 2 ischaemic strokes (a stroke that blocks narrow arteries in the brain) which required him to be admitted to MBPH. During his first admission, he was transferred to a metropolitan hospital for further acute treatment, followed by another stroke specific rehabilitation centre for his ongoing stroke rehabilitation care needs.
In this video, Jeanette and John talk about their experience recognising John having a stroke, the care that he received whilst at MBPH, the ongoing challenges post discharge and symptoms for the community to be aware of.
This years theme is ‘F.A.S.T (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) heroes, recognising the people who spotted the signs of stroke and called an ambulance straight away, potentially saving a life.’
MBPH encourages all community members to know and recognise the F.A.S.T symptoms of a stroke (Face drooping, Arm weakness, and Speech difficulty) and understand the importance of time when it comes to recognising and treating a stroke.
